Best Paper winner at SMARTCOMP 2018

My paper “A Data-driven Approach for Spatio-Temporal Crime Predictions in Smart Cities”, by  Charlie Catlett, Eugenio Cesario, Domenico Talia and Andrea Vinci (me), has won the best paper award of the SMARTCOMP 2018 conference.

The paper presents an approach based on spatial analysis and auto-regressive models to automatically detect high-risk crime regions in urban areas and reliably forecast crime trends in each region. Experiments were carried out on real-world crimes data collected for a big area of Chicago, available at the plenar.io website. The paper is available here.

The 4th IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP 2018), was held in Taormina-Giardini Naxos, Sicily, Italy, on June 18-20, 2018. SMARTCOMP is the premier conference on smart computing, an emerging multidisciplinary area based on the synergistic combination of advances in sensing devices, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, machine learning, cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence.
